Waitlisted train tickets? How to check confirmation and cancel unconfirmed tickets
New Delhi: The chances of getting a waitlisted train ticket increases on several routes which remain busy and some other routes which have a low frequency of trains. All the waitlisted train tickets have different possibilities of getting confirmed before the scheduled departure of the train. In some cases, the status of waitlisted train ticket gets clear at the time of chart preparation. The e-tickets booked via IRCTC e-ticketing website can be cancelled seamlessly before 24 hours of the scheduled departure of the train.
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) also have definitive guidelines for the refund of booking amount in case of train ticket cancellation. However, the refund will be calculated after deducting the cancellation fees. IRCTC charges a different cancellation fee for different train classes such as 1st AC, 2nd AC, EC, CC, SL, etc.
Users can check the booking status of the waitlisted train ticket by using the PNR. The PNR status of a train ticket can be checked at the Indian Railways online enquiry portal, http://www.indianrail.gov.in/enquiry/PNR/PnrEnquiry.html. On the enquiry page, a user is required to enter the PNR of the ticket of which the booking status is to be confirmed. In the next window, the user will be prompted to verify his identity.
Normally, a train ticket with a possibility of more than 70 per cent is highly likely to get confirmed before the scheduled departure of the train. However, the train ticket with a confirmation probability of 50-70 per cent has moderate chances of getting confirmed before the scheduled departure of the train or the preparation of the chart.
The train ticket confirmation chances can be checked at the time of booking the train ticket at the IRCTC e-ticketing website. A user can cancel a train ticket from the IRCTC e-ticketing website by visiting the booked ticket history and selecting the tickets/passengers whose tickets are to be cancelled.
