Wanindu Hasaranga equals world record for most consecutive fifers in ODIs as Sri Lanka defeat Ireland to make it to Super 6 stage of World Cup 2023 Qualifiers

Wanindu Hasaranga starred with a fifer as he helped Sri Lanka qualify for the Super 6 stage of the 2023 World Cup Qualifiers. However, Sri Lanka’s opponents Ireland will have to go home empty handed as the loss eliminated them from World Cup contention.
This was Hasaranga’s third consecutive five-wicket haul in ODIs and he equalled the world record for most consecutive five-fors in Men’s ODIs with Waqar Younis. He picked up the crucial wickets of Ireland’s Andrew Balbirnie, Harry Tector, Gareth Delany, Mark Adair and Joshua Little to finish with figures of 5/79.
In the match, Sri Lanka posted an imposing total of 325, courtesy of a brilliant 103-run knock Dimuth Karunaratne and Sadeera Samarawickrama’s 82. Dhananjaya de Silva did his part in the latter half of the innings when he added 42 runs to the score.
