WATCH: BBL match called off after partial roof collapse in wild Sydney winds | Cricket News

Ahead of the start of the match between Syndey Thunder and Sydney Sixers, fans were evacuated from the ground as a piece of Vinyl soffit in O’ Reilly Stand became loose flapped violently and eventually fell because of wild winds.
“During tonight’s severe winds and storm, a piece of vinyl soffit sheeting from the O’Reilly Stand became loose and was identified venue staff,” the statement NSW read.
“Venue staff immediately vacated patrons from the area to ensure their safety. After the area was cleared, the piece of vinyl soffit sheeting became detached. Two seating bays have been cleared and patrons have been provided seating in another grandstand,” the statement read further.

“As per standard processes, pre-event inspections had taken place across the venue before gates opened. Further inspections are underway. The safety of our patrons remains our number one priority,” it added.
Due to the heavy winds and rain the game between the sides has been halted at 5.1 overs with Syndey Thunder at 36/1. Both the sides have got a point each and have qualified for the playoff phase of the tournament.
Another incident in BBL
On Thursday during the Hobart Hurricanes and Brisbane Heat match at the Gabba which was halted for a bit when a fire near the DJ booth interrupted proceedings.
According to the live visuals, a staff used a fire extinguisher to spray on the flames while police evacuated the area.
In the match, Brisbane Heat batted first and put on a score 201/6 in 20 overs thanks to Marnus Labuschagne’s 77 runs while Matt Renshaw and Tom Alsop chipping in with 40 and 39 respectively.
Chasing the target, the Hurricanes were 47/0 after 4 overs with Caleb Jewell and Mitchell Owen in the crease when the match had to be temporarily halted due to the flames. The match has since resumed with Hobart at 166/3 after 16 overs.
