An egg was thrown at Aleema Khan, ser of former Pakani Prime Miner, Imran Khan, while she was addressing the media outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi Friday. Two women were arrested soon after the incident which took place while Aleema was speaking to reporters after a hearing of the Toshakhana case, reported Dawn.
Video clips of the episode, which circulated on social media shows Aleema reacting in shock as an egg was hurled at her.
A statement from the Rawalpindi Police said the suspects were Pakan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters who had arrived in the city with members of the All Government Employees Grand Alliance and the All Pakan Clerks Association to protest unmet demands. “The egging took place when Aleema Khan did not answer the questions raised the two women,” the police said, according to Dawn, adding that the suspects were taken into custody and shifted to the Adiala checkpoint.

What happened after the incident?
Police said the women attempted to flee in their car after the incident, but their vehicle was surrounded PTI supporters, some of who threw stones at the car, breaking its windshield.

PTI later reposted a video of the car on X, calling the incident a “shameful attack on Aleema Khan.” In a separate statement, PTI said that “the women were sent to the media talk as part of an agenda” and accused police of helping them escape, reported Dawn.
Several leaders across party lines condemned the incident. Defence Miner Khawaja Asif wrote on X: “We strongly condemn such dirty tricks in politics without discrimination. There is opposition in politics, but within the circle of civility.”

Planning Miner Ahsan Iqbal also weighed in, reported Reuters, saying: “Politics must remain a contest of ideas, not of violence or hatred. We should all work to keep it healthy and respectful.”
Miner of State for Interior Tallal Chaudhry called it a reckoning for PTI’s own past actions but added: “Politics runs on differences of opinion, but these differences should be expressed with political decorum.”Story continues below this ad
Balochan National Party-Mengal chief Akhtar Mengal termed the attack “appalling,” saying, “Even in enmity, a woman deserves dignity. Targeting women is the lowest form of politics and this cheap stunt must be condemned in the strongest words.”
Aleema Khan has been campaigning for her brother’s release since August 2024. Imran Khan, imprisoned since August 2023, is serving a sentence at Adiala Jail in the £190 million corruption case, reported Dawn, and faces other pending trials related to the May 9 unrest.
