WATCH: Glenn Maxwell’s ‘LeBron James’ leap and grab marks early catch of 2025 contender in BBL at Gabba | Cricket News

The 2025 calendar year’s cricket is only getting started and Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has already pulled an all-timer catch in Wednesday’s Big Bash League between Melbourne Stars and Brisbane Heat at the Gabba.
Known for his acrobatic and almost mercurial exploits in the white-ball arena, Maxwell added yet another effort defying logic as he sprang high from the boundary line to dismiss Heat’s Will Prestwidge. Adding onto his three catches already on the field, Maxwell felt fans and broadcasters gobsmacked when Prestwide’s slog over long-on was quashed Maxwell who leapt like an NBA star from the boundary line, preventing the ball from crossing the fence and acing the juggling act while jumping back into the field of play.

“What about this from Maxwell, there you go, unbelievable,” commentator Mark Howard said on Fox Sports.  “We have seen some incredible catches this summer, but that is the catch of the year. We have just seen Maxwell like LeBron James flying through the air, flicks it back and does something that only Glenn Maxwell could do.
Maxwell’s effort eventually proved to be crucial in Melbourne restricting the Heat to 149 for seven.  Overlooked from the Test set-up, the ‘Big Show’ was recently released the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction before being snapped up the Punjab Kings for a reunion this year.
“What a catch,” Michael Vaughan added.
“How he keeps his balance and grabs it and the balance of whipping the arm to be able to release it, that’s remarkable,” remarked Vaughan.
