Harmanpreet, the only Indian to feature in this season’s WBBL in Australia, returns to the Melbourne Renegades where she enjoyed a player-of-the-tournament campaign in 2021. Facing Hobart Heat in her side’s first match of the campaign, the Indian captain had a rare outing these days with the ball. She went for 10 runs but picked up the wicket of Jess Jonassen.
Then came a typically brilliant moment on the field for Harmanpreet. With captain Hayley Matthews delivering a bouncer, Georgia Redmayne – who was batting on 49 at the moment – pulled the ball to short fine leg. Harmanpreet, with little time to react, dived forward to take a stunner.

While batting, Renegades were off to a great start but the onus fell on Harmanpreet in the middle order as wickets fell around her. While she looked to accelerate, and looked in decent touch, she was at the receiving end of a poor LBW decision off Sarah Glenn’s bowling. Even in real-time viewing, it is quite evident that the right-hander was hit well outside the offstump. But she was given out and the disappointment was evident for her. There was no DRS available. Harmanpreet fell for 31 off 26 balls and eventually, Renegades lost the match 6 runs while chasing 188.
