Ahead of his first outing for India since September 2022 in the three-match T20I series against Ireland, Jasprit Bumrah was seen bowling at full throttle in the nets on Friday in Dublin.
The 29-year-old, who is making a return from a recurring back injury will lead the Indian side in the bilateral and was seen bowling without any discomfort in his action – with no drop in his pace. After a series defeat in the West Indies, while a new look Indian team will be looking to avoid another loss in Ireland, the larger anticipation is likely to be around how Bumrah fares in his comeback series ahead of the Asia Cup and the much awaited home World Cup.
The speedster has been recuperating after a back surgery and it was feared that the stress reaction in his lower back could have assumed career-threatening proportions. The footage released on Wednesday though, comes as a positive.
After picking up the back injury twice last year, Bumrah has missed out on major competitions such as the T20 World Cup in Australia last year and World Test Championship (WTC) final in England earlier this year. On both occasions, the lack of pace and leadership in the bowling department was mulled over as India fell short of winning an ICC trophy for the first time since 2013.
Bumrah first picked up the back injury last year during the 2022 India tour of England during which he also made his captaincy debut for the national side in the one-off Test match in England. His comeback during the home bilateral T20I series against Australia in September ahead of the shortest format World Cup would prove detrimental as the right-arm quick would complain of the back pain after just the two outings for India.
He was also added to the India squad for the ODI series against Sri Lanka earlier this year before being taken off the squad l on the 11th hour. The selectors and team management will be wary of the recent debacles with regards to Bumrah’s reintroduction on the pitch and keep a close eye on his progress bowling four-over spells with regards to the 10 India will be looking forward from him in the marquee tournament less than two months away.

The series in Ireland will be followed the Asia Cup starting August 31, a three-match ODI series at home against Australia from September 22, before the World Cup kicks off from October 5
