Watch: Lionel Messi scores in less than 2 minutes in friendly against Australia
Argentina captain Lionel Messi scored a goal inside two minutes in a friendly against Australia on Thursday.
Enzo Fernandez won the ball 30 yards from the Australian goal after a stumble Mathew Leckie. The Chelsea player would then find Messi and the former Paris Saint Germain player took a touch and curled the ball sweetly past keeper Mathew Ryan.
Messi had led Argentina to a 2-1 win over the Australians in the Round of 16 at the World Cup last year in Qatar.

Messi, whose two year contract with Paris Saint Germain expired at the end of the 2022/23 football season has signed a new deal with US’ Major League Soccer club Inter Miami.
He said that after winning the World Cup, it was his time to go the United States and “live football in another way.”
“After I achieved the World Cup that I was missing, I am satisfied and grateful for the career I have made, and this is what is most important to me,” Messi was quoted on a recent media interaction Albiceleste Talk on Twitter. “As I said earlier, I don’t think I will participate in the next World Cup. I haven’t changed my mind about that. I’d like to be there to watch it, but I’m not going to participate.”
Despite heavy links on his return to Barcelona this season, Messi will not be joining the catalan club after he was forced to leave in 2021 owing to the financial troubles that have taken over at the Nou Camp over the past few years.
“Even though I wasn’t there, they were chanting my name… It was a little strange, but it made great sense. I spent many years there, and so did my kids. I have a deep relationship with Barcelona,” Messi said.
