After getting dropped from Australia’s Test squad, Nathan McSweeney reminded everyone of his class when he smashed a match-winning 78 off 49 for Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League against the Adelaide Strikers on Sunday.
“Hopefully one day I can be a permanent member in that Test team. It’s been awesome being a part of it in the last couple of weeks. All the guys and the support staff have made me feel very welcoming. It was a dream come true,” he said to Channel 7 as quoted Fox Sports after the knock which guided Brisbane to a 3-wicket win.
“I’ll put my head down and work really hard in the nets. and if I get another opportunity, hopefully I can play a bit better. Not that I scored the runs I would have liked but I felt like my game was in a decent spot,” he added.

In the match, Jamie Overton’s quickfire 45 off 24 helped Adelaide post 174/6. Chasing, McSweeney smashed 10 fours and 2 sixes and with the help of Matt Renshaw who scored 54, helped Brisbane chase down the target in the last ball of the 20th over.
On Friday, McSweeney was dropped from the Australian cricket team, ahead of Boxing Day Test against India. In three matches of the Border Gavaskar Trophy, the South Australian batsman managed only 72 runs in six innings with his top score of the series being 39. Sam Konstas has been named as his replacement for the Test starting on December 26 in Melbourne.

“Devastated, I mean I get the dream come true and it didn’t quite work out the way I wanted. But it’s all part of the game so I’ll get my head down and get back in the nets and work really hard, and hopefully be ready to go for my next opportunity” McSweeney had told 7Cricket on being dropped from the side.
