WATCH: Suryakumar Yadav’s tribute to Ravindra Jadeja for best fielder’s medal, ‘Cheetah ki chaal, baaj ki nazar aur Royal Navhghan ki fielding se koi nahi bach sakta’ | Cricket-world-cup News

There were multiple contenders for India’s elusive fielding medal, that’s become a thing at the ongoing ODI World Cup, from their semifinal win against New Zealand.
KL Rahul was one. Those fine takes behind the stumps made his claim big. “Sir, just give me the medal,” he’d say out loud to India’s fielding coach T Dilip as he orchestrated the post-game ceremony. Suryakumar Yadav, who’d won in the last game, had also taken the all-important catch of Kane Williamson at the boundary to pull India back in the game.
But there was only one ‘human magnet’ – as he was nomenclatured Ian Smith on the comms – for India. Ravindra Jadeja sure did seem like one as he held on to a hattrick of catches in the win at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Handing him the medal, Suryakumar Yadav paid a Bollywood tribute to Jadeja for his on field antics. “Cheetah ki chaal, baaj ki najar aur Royal Navghan ki fielding se koi nahi bach sakta (Nobody can escape from the speed of a cheetah, vision of a hawk, and Royal Navghan’s fielding).”Most Read

The Indian team management’s decision to have a ‘dressing room medal ceremony’ has been a big hit on social media during the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
The Indian Express understands that the idea came in after the team’s fielding wasn’t up to the mark at Asia Cup held in Sri Lanka recently and a few games in West Indies. As a result, the team management came up with this exercise to reward the best fielder during the game. Earlier, the team coaches used to just praise players post every game and there used to be no medal ceremony.

India won their 10th game from as many outings in the tournament this year to make way to a fourth ODI World Cup final appearance and will face either South Africa or Australia in the final on Sunday in Ahmedabad.
