Watch: Virat Kohli hits water boxes in frustration after getting out in second innings of IND vs NZ Pune Test | Cricket News

The first-innings dismissal of Virat Kohli in the second Test in Pune could be attributed to poor shot selection which was unlike him however, in the second innings he was a tad bit unlucky as Mitchell Santner’s delivery kept low. The Indian talisman was frustrated and as he walked back to the pavilion on his way he showed it.
As he was walking up the stairs at the stadium the 35-year-old furiously hit the water boxes. The 35-year-old who is going through a lean patch in red-ball cricket came into bat with positive intent and was playing some crisp shots through mid-wicket.

Initially, Kohli was involved in a runout with Rishabh Pant where poor judgment cost the latter’s wicket. And just when India needed a partnership Kohli got out leaving India in tatters in a chase of 359. The hosts after having a decent hour with the bat in the morning session kept losing the plot post-lunch. In the end, Rohit Sharma’s side was short 113 runs in the game.
Poor patch
It is not the only time Kohli has gone out for a low score. The batter has been going through a lean patch in red-ball cricket this year. In five innings he played he has been averaging 27.22. Anil Kumble believes that not playing domestic cricket was not the only reason behind the bizarre dismissal.
“Perhaps just one or two innings in a match situation could have helped. Being in an actual game is definitely more beneficial than just practice; it gives an upper hand. If he feels that playing earlier would have benefited him, and the team management agrees, then maybe it would have. However, I don’t think we can look at that as the only reason for his struggles against spin,” Indian cricket legend Kumble said on JioCinema
