We want to end the season as champions: Barcelona coach Hansi Flick ahead of Villarreal match | Football News

With Barcelona players celebrating their 28th league title win with an open bus parade on Friday, coach Hansi Flick reminded them that the season was not over and they needed to finish the season on a high. The German had an exceptional first season at the Catalan club winning league title, Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup.
“Yesterday was a day of celebration and rest. A lot of players went out partying, but whoever can party can work, it’s not an excuse. I want to finish the season as we started it,” Flick told reporters on Saturday, a day before hosting Villarreal.
“It’s the last time we play at home and we want to win. We want to end the season as champions. We haven’t lost in 2025 (in the league) and we want to keep it that way. It was incredible to see the faces, the passion of the people, how they celebrated. It was fantastic to see. To celebrate year after year would be amazing. Maybe we can do it again next year. We will work for it. It’s everyone’s title,” he said.

On Thursday, Flick led Barcelona to a 2-0 win over Espanyol which helped them secure the La Liga title. Unbeaten since late December in domestic competition, Barcelona beat Real Madrid to win the Spanish Super Cup in January and then the Copa del Rey.
In his very first season on the Blaugrana dugout, Flick also took Barca to the semi-final of the Champions League, where they lost to Inter Milan in a hard-fought two-legged game 7-6. Nonetheless, after the terrible 2023-24 season, the former German national and Bayern Munich coach led Barca to greater heights this season.

Flick had credited the team atmosphere for Barca’s achievements this year. He had said, “The family we’ve created. Everyone works with passion and knows their role is important. That has helped me enormously in reaching our goals.”
