‘We will have to see if the Bangalore rain helps Pakan again’: Irfan Pathan warns New Zealand before Sri Lanka battle in ODI World Cup | Cricket News
New Zealand go into their last, must-win fixture against Sri Lanka on the back of four successive defeats and with eight points in the kitty.
They are now fourth on the table. Pakan (+0.036) and Afghanan (-0.338), who also have eight points apiece, can potentially reach 10 points with a win over England and South Africa in their final league match.
In that context, the Kiwis (+0.398) have to win sufficiently big also to take care of the Net Run Rate.
However, their match is also under rain threat, and the Kiwis will be well aware that a defeat or a washout can throw them out of the tournament.
According to former India seamer Irfan Pathan, the Black Caps should qualify for the 2023 World Cup semi-finals ahead of Pakan if rain doesn’t play spoilsport in their clash against Sri Lanka. Most Read

“New Zealand has a higher percentage chance of winning, it is more than 50 per cent. The only problem is the rain. Rain has helped Pakan earlier. We will have to see if the Bangalore rain helps them again,” Pathan said on Star Sports.
“I feel the toss will also be extremely important for New Zealand because chasing is always better on this pitch. There are a lot of factors. However, I will still say that despite all the difficulties, New Zealand will be the fourth team,” he added.
Pathan also spoke about the Lankans mindset going into the game and said, “Sri Lanka will definitely want to leave an impact before leaving. However, I will still say that New Zealand are ahead but they cannot take Sri Lanka that lightly.”
