Barcelona coach Hansi Flick was cautious even after the Catalan club thrashing Borussia Dortmund 4-0 in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal, saying they are still not through to the next round yet. It’s not a surprise that he would be wary because Barcelona have been prone to throw away decent 1st leg leads and collapse in the second leg.
The most famous or infamous example of this was against Liverpool in the 2018-19 season when Barcelona won the first leg at Camp Nou 3-0 only for them to lose the return leg at Anfield 4-0 which led to their elimination.
It happened in the 2017-18 season against Roma as well when the Catalan club won 4-1 in the first leg before losing the second leg 3-0 with the Italian side progressing to the next round on away goals.

“We’re not through yet. Winning this many goals is important and, when a team plays as well as that, goals normally do flow. We aren’t thinking we are through because you simply never know what might happen. Football is madness. We’ll be determined to play like this again next week,” Flick said after the Dortmund match.
The return match is on Tuesday at Dortmund, which was last year’s runner-up to Barcelona rival Real Madrid.
In the match, Lewandowski scored twice and Raphinha had a goal and two asss, leaving the Catalan club in a strong position to reach the semifinals for the first time since 2019. Lamine Yamal also scored as Barcelona dealt a commanding blow to the German side’s hopes of advancing.
Barcelona, a five-time European champion, last won the title in 2015. Also Wednesday in the quarterfinals, a wonder goal from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia upstaged a brilliant curling shot from teammate Désiré Doué as Paris Saint-Germain beat Aston Villa 3-1.
