‘What do we know about cricket? We just talk about it on the television for money’: Sunil Gavaskar’s angry reaction to India losing BGT to Australia | Cricket News
Sunil Gavaskar lambasted the Indian cricket team after they lost 3-1 to Australia allowing the hosts to reclaim the Border Gavaskar Trophy after 10 long years.
When he was asked on India’s planning, Gavaskar said in a sarcastic tone, “Arrey what do we know about cricket? We don’t know cricket. We just talk about it on the television for money. Who lens to us? People like Irfan (Pathan) and I talk on the television just like that. There’s no reason for anyone to len to us. Let everything we say go from on top of the head. Whatever I say now also, let it go in from one ear and go out from another.”
Gavaskar also slammed the Indian cricket team’s support staff after their asmal tour Down Under ended on Sunday.

“Aapke coaching staff kya kar rahe the? (What was your coaching staff doing in Australia?) Your bowling coach and your batting coach… your batting coach, in particular, against New Zealand when we were bowled for 46, and the way we were defeated in the remaining matches. Batting main koi dum nahi tha (There was no punch in the batting). Here also our batting was not strong enough, so questions should be asked what have you guys done? Why can’t we see any improvement?”
He also urged the Indian batters to play in the Ranji Trophy without offering any excuses to iron out technical deficiencies that led to their peril in two successive series against New Zealand and Australia.
Gavaskar said it was worrying to see the Indian batters churning out underwhelming efforts against New Zealand at home and in the just-concluded series against Australia.
“On January 23, there is the next round of the Ranji Trophy. Let’s see how many players from this squad play. There should be no excuse for not being able to play,” Gavaskar told Star Sports.
“If you do not play those matches, Gautam Gambhir will have to take a few tough decisions against those who are not available for the Ranji Trophy,” he added.
