Remdesivir not a remedy for Covid-19: Doctor

A leading doctor in Chhattisgarh on Friday urged people not to panic over the non-availability of Remdesivir injection, saying although a few have benefitted there is no guarantee that it helps beat Covid-19.

In a statement, Dr O.P. Sundarani of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital here said not every Covid patient needed the injection.

It has been found that even after taking a shot, patients have died.

Although the injection was found effective to a few patients, it was not found effective in the case of many, the doctor said.

Meanwhile, the state’s Covid caseload rose to over 5 lakhs on Thursday. With 135 more deaths, the death toll mounted to 5,442. Chhattisgarh has witnessed over 10,000 daily cases in the last 10 days. The number of active cases crossed the one lakh mark although around 4 lakh patients have recovered.

The worst-hit districts are Raipur and Durg. The total count of infection in Raipur has spiked the one lakh mark.
