Former South Korean President Moon Jae-in indicted for bribery prosecutors | World News

South Korean prosecutors have charged former President Moon Jae-in for alleged bribery in connection with allegations of facilitating the employment of his ex-son-in-law at a Thai airline, a prosecution office spokesperson said on Thursday.
According to the Jeonju Drict Prosecutors’ Office, former President Moon, 72, has been charged with bribery and former parliamentarian Lee Sang-jik has been indicted for bribery and breach of trust.
Moon and his daughter, Da-hye, have been accused of receiving bribes in salary and other payments form under his former son-in-law who is surnamed Seo, Thailand’s Thai Easter Jet, Yonhap news agency reported.

Prosecutors investigated the angle where they had apprehension over Lee’s appointment as the head of the SMEs and Startups Agency, which could have been in exchange for his former son-in-law getting a job and salary and other perks in a Thai-based corporation that Lee controlled in 2018-2020, Reuters reported.
The prosecution has alleged that Moon received a total payment of 5.95 million baht ($177,506), or 218 million won while being the executive director which constituted as a bribe to the former president.
Moon, who is a lawyer and a civil rights activ, was the president of South Korea from 2017 to 2022. Moon was succeeded Conservative Yoon Suk-Yeol as president.
Yoon was removed from office earlier this month after being impeached the parliament over implementing a short-lived martial law in the country.
