When Shah Rukh Khan admitted his ‘overconfidence’ cost Farhan Akhtar Rs 2.5 cr in Don 2: ‘SRK exchanged a look with Priyanka Chopra and… | Bollywood News

Shah Rukh Khan and Farhan Akhtar’s Don and Don 2 enjoy a cult following. The films had it all – romance, drama, high-octane action sequences – and remain fan favourites to this day. Shah Rukh Khan brought his experience and charisma to the table, giving the iconic character of Don a dinct edge. However, it was this very confidence that ended up costing Farhan Rs 2.5 crore.
British-Pakani actor Alyy Khan, who had co-starred with Shah Rukh in Don 2, recalled the instance when Shah Rukh broke camera equipment worth Rs 2.5 crore just missing a mark a few moments. He recalled that during a car sequence in Berlin, he was sitting beside Shah Rukh, who was very confident about his driving skills. Farhan, on the other hand, was hiding in the backseat of the car so that the cameras wouldn’t catch him. Alyy explained that during the scene, Priyanka Chopra was supposed to drive to them, when Shah Rukh would deliver his iconic line – ‘Don ko pakadna mushkil hi nahi, naamumkin hai’ – and then drive off.
Alyy explained that Shah Rukh nailed the scene in the first shot. However, it was during the second shot that he messed it up. He told Dawn News, “They decided to attempt the shot again. Priyanka pulled over, exchanged a look with Shah Rukh, he delivered his line, and took off. But this time, a stunt car that was supposed to reverse and brake rammed into them because Shah Rukh missed the mark slightly.”

Explaining how Shah Rukh’s confidence cost the producer Rs 2.5 crore, he said, “As he turned left, because he was late a couple of seconds, the other stunt rammed directly into us. Immediately, Shah Rukh looked at me and asked if I was okay. I said I was fine. Everyone gathered around, checking if everything was okay. But there was a loss of €300,000 (Rs 2.5 crore), because the camera equipment had been damaged. Gone in a flash.”
But Shah Rukh, being himself, accepted his make and called himself ‘overconfident’. In a behind-the-scenes video of the film, he can be seen saying, “Maybe I was overconfident, but I just went wrong, and bam! It was very embarrassing, one of the most embarrassing times I’ve had on a film shoot.”
Don 2 was jointly produced Farhan’s Excel Entertainment and Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment. It was made on a reported budget of Rs 76 crore. It was a massive hit at the box office, minting Rs 210.35 crore worldwide.
