‘When the time is right’: Chris Woakes posts a heartfelt message on return to international cricket | Cricket News

England cricketer Chris Woakes has revealed his absence in international cricket in recent times is due to the death of his father. “The last month has been the most challenging of my life when unfortunately my Dad passed away at the beginning of May,” he posted in a story on his Instagram account on Saturday.
“I’ve spent the last few weeks with the people most important to me, my family. We’re all obviously grieving and trying to get through what is undoubtedly the hardest moments in our lives,” he added.
He also wrote he would be back when the time was right. “I will be back playing cricket for Warwickshire, who my Dad loved dearly when the time is right for me and my family.”
The 35-year-old did not feature for Punjab Kings in the recently concluded Indian Premier League. He was also left out of England’s squad for this month’s Twenty20 World Cup in the United States and West Indies.
The 35-year-old, who was part of England’s T20 and one-day international World Cup-winning teams, has played 48 tests, 122 ODIs and 33 T20Is, taking 353 international wickets.
England: They don’t bottle
Despite the absence of a high-quality all-rounder like Woakes England does have a well-rounded squad England team is not only respected for its bowling innovations and big-hitting accelerations but is also reasonably well-behaved and a non-cribbing side.
That is why, unlike in the game’s older formats, no one quite grudges their big wins. They also don’t bottle up in this format.
England squad: Jos Buttler (c), Moeen Ali, Jofra Archer, Jonathan Bairstow, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Ben Duckett, Tom Hartley, Will Jacks, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Reece Topley, Mark Wood.
