While You Were Asleep: Daniil Medvedev wins Miami Open, Benzema nets 7-minute hat trick and Verstappen claims his 1st Australian GP title
Daniil Medvedev beat Jannik Sinner 7-5, 6-3 in the Miami Open on Sunday to move to 6-0 in their career matchup. With this, Medvedev won his fourth ATP title of the year.
Medvedev is now the most sizzling player on the men’s tour, winning 24 of his last 25 matches after the 1-hour, 34-minute triumph. His only loss has come against top-ranked Carlos Alcaraz in the Indian Wells final.
He’s made five straight Finals and he compared this run to 2019 when he advanced to the championship round in six straight events.

“It’s kind of the same,’’ Medvedev said. “It’s the best start to a season I’ve ever had. It’s been amazing amount of (ATP points) won. I’m super happy.’’
Sinner ran out of magic, with his three-hour win late Friday night over Alcaraz in the semifinals — when he had mild cramping in the second set — taking a toll on the 21-year-old Italian.
Sinner was visited an ATP trainer midway through the first set Sunday. During the changeover at 4-3, Sinner received a packet of salt that he dumped into a water bottle to drink.
Real Madrid beat Valladolid 6-0
Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema hit a quick hat trick that led the team to reger a big win over Valladolid 6-0 in the Spanish league on Sunday. The triumph boosted the team’s morale before it faces Barcelona in the semifinals of the Copa del Rey.
“We will go to Barcelona with a lot of confidence after today’s game,” Madrid defender David Alaba said. “We know it’s going to be a different game, it will be tough, but we want to go there and try to get the victory.”

Madrid will travel to Barcelona needing to reverse on Wednesday a 1-0 first-leg loss from the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti used Benzema and several other regular starters against Valladolid despite Madrid’s upcoming visit to the Camp Nou.
Valladolid remains without a league win against Madrid since 2008, and without a league victory at the Bernabéu since 2000.
Verstappen wins in wild finish to F1 Australian GP
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen claimed his first Australian Grand Prix title on Sunday in remarkable circumstances after a chaotic F1 race filled with drama from the green light to the checkered flag.
Although Red Bull’s first triumph in Melbourne since 2011 was expected, the carnage that unfolded in the latter stages of the race at Albert Park made it an extremely hard-fought win.

Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, who drove superbly in his Mercedes, placed second for his first podium of the season, and Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso took third spot.
Only 12 of the 20 starters finished the race, after a late rolling start behind a safety car, and the sport’s governing body said it was the first F1 GP in hory to feature three red flags. Australian Oscar Piastri made the most of the disorder to finish eighth and claim his first championship points for McLaren.
