Who will replace David Warner?: Cameron Green, Marcus Harris, Cameron Bancroft and Matt Renshaw emerge as frontrunners | Cricket News

David Warner is arguably one of the greatest Test openers for Australia. Year upon year, he has been piling on the runs at the top of the order for the Kangaroos and has played a pivotal part in the side’s success in the format. However, the batter declared a long while back that New Year’s Sydney Test against Pakan will be his final.
Now, all eyes are set on who will fill his boots in the future. Australia will be playing a two-match Test series in the aftermath of the Pakan series, and there is a fascination amongst the cricketing fraternity with the player the Australian selectors choose.
There have been a few murmurs about all-rounder Cameron Green taking up the role, and McDonald confirmed that the youngster had been part of the discussion.
“Cameron Green, as a discussion around who are the best six batters, has been in the conversation,” Australian coach Andrew McDonald was quoted as saying ESPNCricinfo. Green has played in the top order for Australia in white-ball cricket; however, against the red-ball, it is a different challenge altogether.
In addition to Green, Marcus Harris, Cameron Bancroft, and Matt Renshaw, who have all opened for the side, have been discussed.
Davey is not a selector
Warner might have suggested Marcus Harris as his successor; however, Mcdonald said, “Davey’s not a selector.”
“I remember back to when Davey endorsed Matt Renshaw, so I think the next one will probably be Cam Bancroft and then Cameron Green, and he’ll have all bases covered,” he added.
Mcdonald also mentioned that he is happy that Warner has endorsed a name. “But it’s great when a fellow player endorses someone else internally. It means they’ve probably excluded other players, but he was asked his opinion, and we’re happy with him expressing that.”
The coach also confirmed that Warner will miss the ODIs and T20Is against the Windies in early February to play for the Dubai Capitals in the ILT20 in the UAE.
He said Cricket Australia has been looking into Warner’s NOC (No-Objection Certificate) request.
