Superstar Lionel Messi will be missed when Argentina and Brazil take on each other in the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifier match at the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires on Wednesday. The ARG vs BRA match is scheduled to start at 5:30 AM Indian Standard Time ().
Argentina are on top of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers – CONMEBOL standings with nine wins, one draw and three losses for 28 points. A draw will confirm Argentina’s place inside the top six. The top six from the 10-team group, competing in home and away round-robin league format, qualify directly for the FIFAWorld Cup 2026 in the USA, Canada and Mexico. The seventh team will make the Inter-confederation play-offs.

The 38-year-old Messi is out of the Argentina vs Brazil World Cup qualifier as he is suffering from a minor muscle injury.

Without the eight-team Ballon D’Or winner on the bench against Brazil, Argentina will bank on Julián Alvarez and Thiago Almada.
The last time Argentina and Brazil met was in the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifying campaign in November 2023. Nicolas Otamendi’s second-half goal handed Argentina a 1-0 victory at the Maracana Stadium. The latest clash will be the 115th Argentina vs Brazil international match. Brazil lead the tie with 46 wins to Argentina’s 42.
