WI vs IND: Skipper Rohit Sharma smashes fastest fifty in his Test career to put India on front foot

Indian captain Rohit Sharma led from the front as he scored a third consecutive fifty plus score on the ongoing tour of the West Indies, his quickest half-century in Test cricket.
With the Indian bowlers, led Mohammed Siraj, having run right through the West Indies middle and lower order – nabbing six wickets in the first session on Day 4 – Rohit breached the fifty score inside 35 deliveries.
Rohit combined alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal for a quickfire 98 run opening stand off 71 deliveries as India added to their first innings lead of 183 runs. The opening stand was second behind Marcus Trescothick & Michael Vaughan (10) in terms of run-rates* (8.28).
The Indian skipper is only behind his opening partner in the ongoing Test series’ scoring charts having got a century in the first Test in Dominica, which was only his second Test century away from home.
Earlier, on Day 4, Mohammed Siraj regered his second Test fifer – a first since his heroics at the 2021 Gabba Test. Mukesh Kumar, who made his debut for India, nabbed a couple wickets. So did Ravindra Jadeja, whose long-time spin partner Ravichandran Ashwin also managed another wicket.

West Indies, who had resumed their first innings at at 229/5, looked in a promising position on Day 3 before Joshua Da Silva was dismissed Siraj at the team score of 208/4.
