With eye on England Tests, Shreyas Iyer to turn up for Mumbai in Ranji Trophy | Cricket News

India’s middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer has been included in Mumbai’s Ranji fixture against Andhra that will be played from January 12-15 at Bandra Kurla Complex.
The Indian Express understands that Iyer was given an option the BCCI’s selection committee to feature in the India A series against England Lions in Ahmedabad. Instead, Iyer has chosen to play in the Ranji Trophy to prepare for the upcoming Tests against England and informed his availability to the Mumbai Cricket Association on Tuesday morning.
And the MCA has now included Iyer in the squad for the second round of Ranji fixtures that begins on Friday. The right-handed batsman, who was part of the Test team’s tour to South Africa, didn’t have a good series with the bat and will be looking to find some runs ahead of the five Tests against England, starting January 25 in Hyderabad.
Iyer’s presence will bolster Mumbai, who will be without the services of Sarfaraz Khan and Shivam Dube. While Sarfaraz has been included in India A squad, Dube is part of India’s T20 team for the series against Afghanan.

The 41 time Ranji Trophy champions have started the campaign on a bright note, defeating Bihar an innings and have flown home with seven points.
