With five wins from five games, Namibia confirm their berth at men’s T20 World Cup | Cricket News
Namibia defeated Tanzania 58 runs to qualify for the men’s T20 World Cup 2024. It was Namibia’s fifth win on the trot that assured them a top-two finish on the Africa region qualifiers points table.
This will be the third edition in a row that Namibia will be playing in the Men’s T20 World Cup. In 2021, they managed to make it to Super 12 after finishing second in the group stage but failed to do so last year.
“We’re very proud of the boys, of Pierre de Bruyn and his coaching team and also Gerhard Erasmus, the captain of the team,” Rudie van Vuuren, president of Cricket Namibia, told BBC Sport Africa.
“The boys played professional cricket throughout, really a high standard of cricket.
“And you can see the fact that we have a professional set-up eventually makes the difference in this kind of tournament.”
The T20 World Cup will be played in the West Indies and the USA from June 4-30 next year.
Uganda, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Nigeria are still in the reckoning from the Africa region. Among these, Uganda and Kenya are placed better than Zimbabwe and Nigeria, who will have to wait for other results to go their way.
A few days ago, Uganda had stunned Zimbabwe five wickets to earn two crucial points in the Qualifiers.
The next edition of the showpiece will feature 20 teams divided into four groups consing five sides each, while 12 teams have already qualified for the event.
