‘Woh last mein jo jhaadu lagate the…’: Randeep Hooda, Lin Laishram on how theatre brought them together and love kept them close | Feelings News

In a recent interview, actor Randeep Hooda and fellow art Lin Laishram opened up about finding love in each other. Their story, which culminated in a traditional Meitei wedding, began in the hallowed halls of theatre, proving that sometimes the best romances start with friendship.
How Randeep and Lin met
The couple’s paths first crossed in 2011 at the prestigious Motley theatre group, founded veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah. Fresh from New York, Lin found herself navigating the Mumbai entertainment industry, where Randeep, already an established member of Motley and the Bollywood film industry, became an unexpected guide. “He was one of the first people I met from Naseer Sir’s theatre crew. And he helped me get casting directors’ names and all of that,” Lin revealed in an interview with Curly Tales.
Their initial dynamic was that of a senior and junior at the theatre group, with Lin joining the production team of ‘Arms and the Man.’ With characteric humour, she recalled her humble beginnings: “Woh last mein jo jhaadu lagate aur light off karte the, I used to do that” (I used to sweep and turn off the lights at the end).

What started as a professional acquaintance blossomed into a deep friendship that lasted over a decade. “We have been friends for a very long time, we’ve had a great friendship since we met,” Randeep shared with the media before their wedding last year, highlighting the firm foundation of their relationship.
The couple’s traditional Meitei wedding ceremony
In a beautiful gesture of cultural respect, the couple celebrated their union with a traditional Meitei wedding ceremony in Manipur. Despite being aware of the lengthy ceremonial requirements for grooms in Meitei traditions, Randeep approached the customs with enthusiasm and reverence. “I felt that it’s only respectful to come and marry in the bride’s traditions. I look forward to the ceremony and experiencing my partner’s culture. I just hope I don’t make any makes,” he expressed before the ceremony.
As they embarked on a new chapter together, Randeep’s vision for their future reflected both his excitement and commitment. “We have been talking about Manipuri culture for a long time,” he had shared, adding, “I am praying for a happy future filled with lots of kids and abundance. I love that we’re taking our friendship forward and becoming family.”
Their story stands as a testament to the power of organic connections, cultural appreciation, and the timeless appeal of a friendship that evolves into love.
From the backstage of theatre to the center stage of life, Randeep and Lin’s journey showcases how some of the most beautiful love stories are written not in dramatic moments, but in the quiet understanding of friendship that grows over time.
