Woman cricketer alleges her bag with valuables stolen at London hotel
Indian wicket-keeper batter and Chandigarh cricketer Taniya Bhatia has claimed her bag along with her cards, watches and jewellery were stolen during the Indian women’s cricket team’s stay at Marriott Hotel London Maida Vale earlier this week.
While the Indian women’s cricket team landed in India on Monday afternoon after the team’s horic 2-1 win in the three-match ODI series earlier last week, the 24-year-old tweeted about the incident at the team hotel in London on Monday.
“Shocked and disappointed at Marriot Hotel London Maida Vale management; someone walked into my personal room and stole my bag with cash, cards, watches and jewellery during my recent stay as part of Indian women’s cricket team. So unsafe,” Taniya tweeted on Monday afternoon. In another tweet, the Chandigarh cricketer stated that she was hopeful of a quick resolution of the issue. “Hoping for a quick investigation of this matter. Such lack of security at ECB’s preferred hotel partner is astounding. Hope they will take cognisance as well,” Taniya said in another tweet.

While Taniya was also part of the silver medal winning Indian women’s cricket team in the Birmingham, Commonwealth Games, the Indian wicket-keeper batter did not play in any of the three T20I and three ODI matches in England. The 24-year-old was part of both the teams but did not get a chance to play in any of the games. She has played in two Test, 19 ODI and 53 T20I for the Indian women’s cricket team so far in her career.
Taniya’s father Sanjay Bhatia confirmed the theft. “Taniya has reached Chandigarh this evening and she told us about the theft of her bag along with her cards, watches and jewellery. It is expected that the valuables are worth Rs 5-6 lakh. She has told us that the BCCI has contacted the England Cricket Board regarding the incident and hopefully, the issue will be resolved,” Taniya’s father said.
