Aamir Khan hints at the possibility of playing Lord Krishna in Mahabharat, says, ‘I find him deeply impactful, very inspired him’ | Bollywood News

Aamir Khan has never shied away from expressing his long-standing ambition of bringing the Mahabharat to the big screen. Over the years, the actor-producer has hinted at his vision of adapting the epic, but now the dream is officially taking shape. Speaking at the India@2047 Summit hosted ABP Live, he opened up about the magnitude of the project and why it remains so close to his heart. “Yeh mera sapna hai ke main bana paun Mahabharat, lekin bohot mushkil sapna hai woh… (It is my dream to make the Mahabharat, but it’s a very difficult dream…) see, Mahabharat will never let you down… but you might let Mahabharat down,” Aamir said candidly, underlining the responsibility such a revered story carries.
He had earlier this month confirmed that the project is being envisioned as a grand franchise, with multiple directors helming different segments. When asked which character he would personally like to portray, Aamir shared, “Actually… mujhe Krishna ka kirdaar bohot hi prabhavit karta hai… I’m very inspired him. So that’s a character I really love (Actually… I find the character of Krishna deeply impactful… I’m very inspired him. So that’s a character I really love).” However, he was careful not to reveal too much about the ambitious venture just yet. “Kyunki yeh bohot bada project hai, toh main kuch badi cheezein bolna nahi cha raha hoon (Since this is such a big project, I don’t want to say anything major right now),” he said, acknowledging the scale and sensitivity of the adaptation.

Aamir humbly admitted that he isn’t sure whether this dream of his will ever be fulfilled. But regardless, he emphasised the importance of bringing such a monumental story to life for Indian and global audiences. “Chahe main banaun ya koi aur… hum chahenge ki Bharat mein yeh film bane aur hum duniya bhar ko dikhayein ki humare paas kya hai (Whether I make it or someone else does… we would want this film to be made in India and show the world what we have).” For now, he is focused on his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par, which is in the final stages of post-production. He said, “Meri yeh soch hai ki meri ek dafa film release ho jaye… kyunki 20 June tak main kaafi masroof rahunga… jaise film release ho jaayegi… uske baad main kaam shuru kar sakta (My thought is that once my film releases—because I’ll be very busy until June 20…after that, I can start working on it).”
