Xiaomi Mi 8 full specs leaked online, ahead of May 31 launch

Xiaomi will launch the flagship Mi 8 phone in China on May 31. Ahead of launch, full specs of the Mi 8 have leaked online giving us a complete look at what’s going to be in store although it’s advisable you take this piece of information with a pinch of salt. What with the official launch nearing, we’ll know for sure soon enough though.

The Mi 8, according to the latest leak, will come with a 6.2-inch IPS (LCD) display with a 1080p+ resolution. It will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. The phone will run Android 8.1 Oreo software and because Xiaomi will be announcing the MIUI 10 on May 31, chances are the Mi 8 would be the first phone to ship with the new version of MIUI.

In terms of optics, the Xiaomi Mi 8 will have a dual camera system on the rear consisting of one 20-megapixel sensor with f/1.7 aperture and another 16-megapixel sensor with f/2.0 aperture. On the front, the Mi 8 will come with a 16-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture.

The Mi 8 will measure 7.8mm in thickness and weigh in at 172 gram. It will further be backed by a 3,300mAh battery.

The Mi 8, which will be Xiaomi’s next flagship phone following the Mi 6 from last year, has been subject to numerous leaks and rumours. The biggest one of them all is that the Mi 8 will apparently ship with 3D facial recognition technology similar to the one on-board the Apple iPhone X. The Mi 8 will most likely come with a notch, but, at least the addition of 3D face unlock hardware up-front will ensure it won’t be just there to join the crowd like other Android counterparts.

Rumour also has it that the Mi 8 will come with an in-screen fingerprint scanner in line with what Vivo has in the X21 UD. Xiaomi, to recall, has previously launched a phone with an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, but, the Mi 8 — if at all it has an in-screen fingerprint sensor — will rock the latest in tech where the sensor won’t likely be below the cover glass (like it is in the Honor 10) but underneath the display.

The Mi 8 is also said to come with an all-glass and metal body with a notch up-front, and because the Mi Mix 2S already comes with wireless charging, chances are that the Mi 8 would get the support as well.
