Earthquake with a preliminary 6.2 magnitude shakes Panama, with no immediate reports of damage | World News

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.2 struck off the Pacific coast of Panama on Monday, according to the US Geological Survey, AP reported.
The quake occurred around midday, about 210 kilometres (130 miles) south of Punta Burica in Panama’s Chiriquí province, near the border with Costa Rica. It originated at an estimated depth of 10 kilometres (6 miles).
Authorities said the tremor was felt in Chiriquí and near areas in western Panama, a region that often experiences seismic activity. However, Panama’s civil protection agency confirmed there was no immediate threat of a tsunami and no reports of injuries or damage to infrastructure.
Officials added that monitoring would continue in the area.
