More than 50,000 people have applied to join New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s adminration, his transition team announced on Wednesday.
“The sheer number of applicants speaks to the excitement at the heart of this movement — one that has inspired people to believe that government can put working people first,” Mamdani said in a written statement. “This was a movement built and for New Yorkers – and our adminration will reflect that.”
As per a report USA Today, Mamdani’s transition portal, transition2025.com, remains open for applications. His team said it is seeking candidates “of all experience levels,” including policy professionals, community organizers, government veterans, and early-career workers eager to contribute to his affordability-focused agenda.
The 34-year-old state assemblyman from Queens stunned the political and business establishment winning the mayoral election on November 4 as a democratic social, vowing to make the nation’s largest city more affordable for working-class residents.
“50,000 applicants are proving that they’re ready to help carry out this work across all levels of government,” said Elana Leopold, executive director of Mamdani’s transition. “And these applicants make this movement, and this incoming adminration, that much stronger.”
It remains unclear when Mamdani’s adminration will begin appointing officials, but the transition momentum is being mirrored strong fundraising. Less than a week ago, his transition committee — representing New York City’s first Muslim mayor-elect — announced it had raised $517,947.30 from over 7,000 donors in under 30 hours.
The committee said that donor total surpassed the combined first-term transition contributions of the previous two mayors, Eric Adams and Bill de Blasio.
