35,161 agriculture pumps to get power: Baghel

A total of 35,161 agricultural pumps which are awaiting permanent power connection will be energized soon, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel announced on Tuesday.

He said this in the Assembly on the seventh day of the Budget session.

Following the announcement, the process of providing permanent power connection to all the agricultural pumps will be completed in fiscal 2021-22.

This year, electricity connection has been provided to 10,504 pumps in the state, the House was informed.

Farmers have started going for two crops due to which demand for electric connection for the agricultural pumps is continuously increasing.

Congress Kondagaon MLA sought details of the farmers from Makdi and Kondagaon blocks who have submitted all the documents and deposit to the Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Co Ltd (CSPDCL) in the last two years but are yet to get power.

The Chief Minister replied that in 366 farmers in Makdi and 791 in Kondagaon have submitted all the documents and deposit. Till January 31, they did not fall in the seniority category and so permanent power connection had not been provided.

In Makdi, tender process was on for 235 cases. In Kondagaon, 184 connections have since been provided and the rest are pending on the basis of seniority with work in progress, he said.
