‘Churchill wasn’t even Prime Miner then!’: Pep Guardiola hails Erling Haaland for his landmark goal

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has hailed Erling Haaland for his landmark goal that came on Sunday against Fulham at Craven Cottage in London.
‘I know that Winston Churchill was not even the Prime Miner the last time the record was set that Erling (Haaland) broke,’ said Guardiola.
Haaland’s 50th in all competitions this season helped City to go top of the table. The Norwegian’s third minute penalty in City’s 2-1 win at Fulham saw him score his 34th Premier League goal of the season to tie the record jointly held Shearer and Andy Cole.
While their totals were in 42-game seasons, Haaland’s goals have come in a 38-game campaign, in which the Norwegian still has six more matches to set a new benchmark in English soccer’s top flight. Crucially, those goals are edging City ever closer to the title.

‘He showed his mentality with his goal’ said Guardiola as Haaland converted from the spot in the third-minute at Craven Cottage, after missing from the spot against Bayern Munich.
‘We knew the game today would define a lot. Now, we have two games at home. Step–step and game–game.
Had Guardiola been successful in his pursuit of Kane in the summer of 2021, the Tottenham striker might have already ended his search for a first major trophy of his career.
Instead, Haaland is the man leading City’s attack and its charge toward the title, the Champions League and FA Cup.
‘The best mentality is to accept our opponent is not going to drop as many points. Now we have six games and we know we are closer,’ added Guardiola

‘This was definitely (one of the hardest games) and we knew it. All the time, we come from a run of victories as Arsenal didn’t drop points and it looked like the target was just beating Arsenal. Once you play that game, you can drop a little bit. I didn’t see that drop,’ the Spaniard insed.
Harry Kane’s 208th goal in the Premier League could not prevent Spurs from a third loss in four games, albeit in the most dramatic fashion in a 4-3 defeat to Liverpool. Kane is now tied with Wayne Rooney as the Premier League’s second-highest scorer of all time, behind only Alan Shearer on 260.
