Feels good to see women’s cricket get recognition and support: Neeraj Chopra on WPL

Olympic gold medal Neeraj Chopra on Friday attended the eliminator between Mumbai Indians and UP Warriorz in Navi Mumbai.
In a video shared WPL’s official Twitter account, Chopra spoke about his experience of meeting the women’s cricket team, his favourite players and more.
Earlier in January, Chopra had met the Indian contingent on the eve of their U19 T20 Women’s World Cup final against England.

Speaking about the same, the Javelin thrower said, “I felt great. It was the first time I met the Indian Women’s Cricket Team and it felt great to watch India win the World Cup in South Africa.”
“Today, I’ve come again to meet them and it feels so good to see the environment of the tournament, people supporting women’s cricket, the kind of matches being played and the competition…it’s so good to witness,” he added.
When asked about his thoughts on WPL, the 25-year old said, “In the Olympics, both men and women compete but it feels so good to see women’s cricket get recognition and support from people.”

When asked to pick three favourite players from the league, he named MI captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Bangalore skipper Smriti Mandhana and Delhi Capitals’ Shafali Verma.
Chopra also urged people to support the players in their tough times and said, “We cannot always perform well and that is when we need support from people the most.”
“The athletes themselves go through hard times. Keep supporting them. Such things happen in sports,” he added.
