WATCH: No ball or not? Early Shafali Verma wicket off a high full toss debated early in WPL final

The 2023 Women’s Premier League final got off to a fiercely contested start as Issy Wong came in to bowl the second over with Shafali Verma on strike and just the two runs on board from Nat Sciver-Brunt’s first.
It started off with Shafali lofting last game’s hattrick-star for a six down long on and a slash through point for four on the second. Chaos would ensue on the third and Verma miscued a high full toss straight to the fielder at backward point. Just as the Mumbai players ran to celebrate the wicket, Shafali and her captain at the non-striker’s end, Meg Lanning called for a possible wa high no-ball.
The on-field umpire’s would go upstairs for a check. The third umpire however, deemed the decision in Mumbai’s favor as the wicket stood with both Lanning and Shafali not pleased the same. The side angle ball tracker would show the Delhi opener deep rooted in her crease and the ball dipping in over the stumps behind.

The swashbuckling Indian opener had scored 241 runs for Delhi prior to the game, with the highest strike rate in the competition than anyone else (182.58).

Another delivery later, Alice Capsey would fall off another full toss, this one much lower than the last. Jemimah Rodrigues rounded up the over with a crunchy cover drive off a half volley as Delhi finished the topsy turvy second with 16 runs on the board at the loss of two wickets.
While Delhi had finished the league stage on top of the table, Mumbai were the second best and beat UP Warriorz to make it to the final.
