‘I was fearful, couldn’t sit in classroom of 30 people’: Jemimah Rodrigues opens up on dealing with cousin’s death

Indian women’s team batter Jemimah Rodrigues comes across as a fun-loving, jovial person to be around.
Rodrigues is well known for her wit and sense of humour and frequently posts videos and snippets of her enjoying life both on and off the pitch.
However, in her interview on “Breakfast with Champions”, the 22-year-old revealed a traumatic event that affected her at the age of six when she lost her cousin Kazia, age 4, who drowned in the pool while on a family vacation.
Still young, Jemimah found it difficult to go to school after the painful row and recalled that it was her faith in God that helped her overcome the triggering phase.

“That changed me a lot. I got insecure after that, I was so fearful, and I remember I didn’t want to leave my mom. I couldn’t sit in school like a classroom of 30 people,” Jemimah told host Gaurav Kapoor.

“I needed my mom like I used to make a big scene, like crying and started reacting.”
Jemimah said despite trying too hard she was unable to move past the incident’s memories.

“It was very embarrassing for me but I was going through something I didn’t know what it was. However much I tried, I could not get over it because it was someone very close to me,” she said.
