Former Shivpuri District BJP Vice President Rakesh Kumar Gupta, a ‘loyalist’ to Union Minister Jyotiradhitya Scindia, celebrated his return to parliament on Monday with a massive k rally of more than 2,000 supporters.
Gupta joined the party in the presence of Madhya Pradesh State Assembly Committee Chairman Kamal Nath and other senior officials. He left the parliament with Cindia when a rebellion overthrew Kamal Nath’s government in 2020.
Gupta folded his arms and apologized to congressional officials on Monday. He said, “I’m going home. The Congress gave me name and respect and leadership. I worked for the National Congress for 40 years. I have served people. My father was a member of the House of Representatives from the independence struggle until his death. I made a mistake and I want to apologize to the Congress family for my flawed character. Please forgive me for coming here with my arms crossed,” Gupta told the crowd gathered at the parliamentary headquarters in Bhopal. The council hopes to capitalize on Gupta’s links with the Shivpuri merchant community. A source in Gupta’s campaign said he felt marginalized within the Bharatiya Janata Party. “There was no respect for him in the Bharatiya Janata Party. He was appointed district vice-president but did not receive any duties. He was not invited to any public functions,” Gupta said. A close leader said.
