Days after making history as the only country to achieve a gentle landing near the Moon’s south pole, India on Saturday added a new twist to the limits of its space exploration. with the successful launch of the Aditya-L1 mission.
India’s first solar space observation mission was launched at 11:50 a.m. aboard the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) XL from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota. The process of separating Aditya-L1 and sending it into an elliptical orbit around the Earth was successful and took about 63 minutes.
Aditya-L1 will be placed in a halo orbit around the Lagrange point 1 (L1) of the Solar-Earth system, located about 1.5 million km from Earth. The journey to L1 will take 125 days.
