‘What kind of foolishness is that’: Sanju Samson on what he thinks when people say he’s an unlucky cricketer | Cricket News
Sanju Samson is a cricketer who has one of the most passionate fanbases behind him. Each time he doesn’t make the cut for the Indian cricket team, there is debate on social media about why he is being left out. So far, Samson has played in 13 ODIs and 24 T20Is for India.
There is also a sense of feeling that Samson is simply unlucky to miss out multiple times from the national team.
But in a recent podcast, Samson dismissed that tag of being ‘unlucky’ as a cricketer.
“I’m not very interested in that. ‘Aiyyyo, paavam Sanju! The most unluckiest cricketer!’ When I hear that I think, ‘what kind of foolishness is that!’ How am I the unluckiest cricketer? Where I have reached right now, it’s more than where I thought I could,” said the Kerala cricketer in a podcast called I AM with Dhanya Varma.
Samson is currently captaining the Kerala cricket team against Mumbai in a Vijay Hazare Trophy 2023, where he scored 55 runs as Kerala posted a target of 232 runs.
In the Indian Premier League, Samson has been the captain of the Rajasthan Royals franchise since the 2021 season, after first being bought the team in 2013.
Samson also opened up about his bond with Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma.
Talking about a specific moment in his cricketing career, he said: “The first or the second person who came and talked to me was Rohit bhai. He came and asked, ‘Haan Sanju, kya haal hai? Theek hai na? (How are you? All good?) You played very well in the Indian Premier League, and hit a lot of sixes against Mumbai Indians too! You’re batting really well’ Like there has been a great support from him,” revealed Samson.
Samson also said that the sport was the “happiest thing he does in his life” and that “90 percent of his life revolves around cricket”.
