Neeraj Chopra is set to miss the 63rd Ostrava Golden Spike 2024 athletics meet due to an injury he sustained in training two weeks ago. The event is scheduled to be held in in Czechia on May 28 (Tuesday).
“Due to an injury that he sustained in training two weeks ago (abductor muscle), he will not be able to throw in Ostrava,” the organisers said in a statement.
However, Neeraj Chopra, whi expected to stay in Europe as he is led to compete in the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku, Finland on June 18, will present at the meet. Neeraj had pulled out of this even last year as well due to a muscle injury.
“He will arrive at the event as a guest,” read the statement.

Neeraj is being replaced Euorpean chaampion Julain Weber from Germany, who threw 88.37m last week, the third best performance of the year.
Jakum Vadlecjh had won the Golden Spike men’s javelin title in 2023 with a modest 81.93m effort.
Neeraj began his season at Doha Diamond League last week, where he finished second with his final throw of 88.36m, currently his decorated career’s ninth-best mark.
Earlier this month, Neeraj also participated at the National Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar, where he secured the goled medal with an 82.27m throw.
Neeraj was participating in an event in India for the first time since becoming the Olympic champion three years ago. The last time Neeraj competed in India was at the Federation Cup in March 2021, where he won the gold medal with a throw of 87.80m.
