Neena Gupta says 95% of Indian women don’t know that sex is for enjoyment, confesses she thought kissing could lead to pregnancy | Bollywood News

Actor Neena Gupta was controversy’s favourite child for a while. Interestingly, what made her controversial in the 80s, would still make her so in 2020s. It essentially means that not only was Neena ahead of her times, but because of how slowly Indian society is progressing, she could still be considered as such. But, Neena quickly understood that a woman should not necessarily be bound the rigmaroles of imposed beliefs. In an interview to Lilly Singh, Neena opened up about how movies shaped up her idea of sex and sexual desire.

“What did they show in our movies? If you are a woman, your basic motto was to find a man. In fact, for the longest time, I thought we could get pregnant if we kissed. I literally thought it was true. That was what our movies showed us,” said Neena, who then spoke about what takeaways the men had from our movies. “They learned that they are the boss. Even till today, this is the major takeaway from most films.”

Pointing out that women gaining financial independence has changed a lot in our system, Neena said, “With women earning, there are more divorces because they are not willing to take sh*t from the men. Earlier, they weren’t earning, and they weren’t educated, and they had to live through a life. Now, some women are earning more than their men, and things are changing.”
Neena, who has been refreshingly candid about her personal life, said that she strongly believed that Indian should stop seeing sex as a taboo topic. “The more we discuss sex in the open, the less we will be ogled at, because it would be normalised. I feel very sad for women and their sexual desires,” said Neena, adding, “In India, 99% or at least 95% Indian women don’t know that sex is for their enjoyment too. Many still think sex is only used to please men, and have their babies. A very miniscule minority of women have realised that sex can be enjoyable for all parties. For majority, it is not a pleasure at all.” She said that ‘sex’ is highly overrated.
