‘How much is enough?’: Pune DINK couple with ₹11.5 crore net worth plans to retire in three years

Balancing high-pressure careers with personal well-being often leads couples to re-evaluate their long-term financial priorities. A Pune-based DINK (double-income, no-kids) couple in their late thirties has built a substantial net worth of ₹11.5 crore across global equity, real estate, and liquid reserves. Despite earning well, demanding work schedules and rising stress levels have recently begun taking a toll on their physical health. Confronted with physical burnout, the couple pivoted from endlessly accumulating wealth to questioning how much is truly enough. They now plan to retire within three years, prioritising health and personal time over further net-worth growth. The couple’s annual expenses are around ₹22 lakh. (Representational image). Between them, they’ve built a net worth of ₹11.5 crore,” an X user Amit Arora wrote. Also Read: ‘People called us infertile’: Indian-origin couple opens up after DINK video backlashHe then gave a breakdown of his cousin and his wife’s investments and savings.1. Real estate: ~ ₹3.2 Cr2. Indian stocks & MFs: ~ ₹1.8 Cr3. US stocks: ~ ₹5 Cr4. Cash + retirement savings: ~ ₹1.5 CrThe couple, with an annual expense of around ₹22 lakh and dependent parents, initially considered building a large corpus. However, over the years, the stress of demanding work on their health had made them rethink their future goals.“The bigger issue is their own health. Work has become increasingly demanding. Long hours. Constant pressure. Very little time to switch off. And recently, they started noticing the consequences physically.”This made them stop asking “How much more can we earn?” and start questioning “How much is enough?” That is when they decided to retire early. Arora wrote, “Their plan is to work for another 2-3 years.”“Retiring earlier. Not because they hate work. Not because they have stopped being ambitious. But because they’ve reached a point where time has become more valuable than another number on their net-worth statement.”Arora continued that his cousin’s wife described their decision in the best way: “We spent our younger years building the money. Maybe it’s time to start spending some of it on our lives.”Explaining their lifestyle, Arora continued, “They don’t have children, so their financial goals are very different from most couples their age. They aren’t trying to build a massive corpus for college, weddings or leaving behind multiple properties. Their parents are retired and depend on them, so they still want enough financial security to support them comfortably.”What did social media say?The post prompted mixed reactions on X. An individual commented, “People with no children and real estate ( I assume paid off) is a dream situation, this is not an earning problem but a spending issue, spending 22 L per Year in India is quite exorbitant. They should retire now and work part-time just to pay bills.”Another posted, “That’s an impressive position to be in at 38. The interesting part is whether they’re optimising for freedom or for a bigger number. What would make them delay retirement?”Also Read:
