Take measures to stop post-poll violence: Maya
Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati expressed concern over the incidents of political violence after panchayat polls in Uttar Pradesh and asked the state government to take stern measures to control it.
“Incidents of violence, arson and other criminal acts happening in the state after panchayat polls is a matter of serious concern. The state government should take immediate measures in this regard,” Mayawati said in a tweet in Hindi on Friday morning.
Reports of clashes and other incidents of violence have been pouring in from various parts of the state, including Gorakhpur, Bijnor and Bareilly, after the results of panchayat polls were declared on Monday. These post-poll skirmishes claimed the lives of about half a dozen persons while several dozen others were injured so far.
