CM takes stock of Covid treatment in Aligarh, holds discussions with AMU VC

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and held discussions with Vice-Chancellor Tariq Mansoor and other officials after several serving professors succumbed to Covid-19 in the past few weeks.

The chief minister visited the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College campus on Thursday and monitored the facilities available for treatment of patients in Aligarh, particularly in AMU. He also went for the on-ground inspection of the Integrated Command and Control Centre and reviewed the healthcare facilities available for Covid patients.
Before his visit, the CM had earlier expressed concern and grief over the tragic deaths of the professors and staff of AMU, including 16 faculty members. He had called up VC Prof Tariq Mansoor, assuring him of all help to fight Covid.

He had assured all possible assistance in terms of medicines, medical equipment, availability of ambulance and oxygen cylinders. To firm up preventive measures against the spread of the deadly virus, the chief minister asked for a detailed report inquiring about ongoing activities in the university. In order to give a wider coverage to the immunisation programme and to bring the transmission levels down, Yogi, in a high-level meeting with the administrative officials, issued a slew of instructions to accelerate the vaccination drive and to increase the number of vaccination centres so that people are provided a safety shield at the earliest.
Besides, to enable early detection and treatment of Covid, Yogi also issued directives to double Covid testing as per the target of ‘Test, Trace and Treat’.

In addition, the chief minister also instructed the district administration to hold virtual meetings with public representatives once every week. With this, to increase manpower in hospitals for effective and timely medical care of Covid patients, regular paramedical training must be given to the volunteers, he said.
Yogi reiterated the importance of double masking, distancing and hand hygiene and said that masks should seal the air passage around the nose and mouth for proper protection. Established in 1920 by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, AMU became a Central University in 1921.
