Akhilesh questions ‘whistle-stop’ state tour by CM Yogi
Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav questioned the whistle-stop tour of the state by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, terming it a “waste of public money.”
In a statement issued in Lucknow on Monday, Akhilesh said, “The whistle-stop tour of the chief minister was more about serving his political objectives rather than addressing the pandemic crisis. There is no let up in the spread of corona infection and Black and white fungus across the state. There is an appalling short supply of life saving medicines and vaccines yet the CM and his ministers keep repeating the same platitudes and offering nothing new but new directions and assurances.”
“No one in the state government has any idea about what the chief minister’s Team-9 and Team-11 are doing. Instead of fighting to tackle the worsening situation of pandemic from the front, he is busy touring the state. What can be the justification of this except wastage of time and public money. The CM seems more concerned about setting his party’s house in order ahead of the 2022 UP Assembly elections rather than helping the people fight the pandemic. Instead of working to better the party’s electoral fortunes , the CM should tell the people as to when the second dose of vaccine will be available and whether everyone will be vaccinated by Diwali this year,’’ the former UP CM said.
“The shortage of vaccine is a common complaint across the state with large number of youths going to the hospitals and returning home disappointed. The government has done little for improving the facilities available at Primary Health Centres (PHC) and nothing has been done to address resource crunch at Covid hospitals for facing the third corona wave,’’he said.
The SP chief further alleged that despite the alarming number of cases, black marketing of essential medicines remains rampant and no effective government steps has so far been visible to control the situation. “The present BJP regime transformed Uttar Pradesh into a sick state as the situation is grim in rural areas and people are dying without medical aid. In its four-year rule, the BJP government did not add anything and damaged the existing medical and health infrastructure. Had the ruling dispensation taken care to maintain the health infrastructure created during the previous SP regime, the present health crisis could have been averted,” Akhilesh opined.
