Rahul Gandhi to meet with Opposition MPs to discuss strategy in House, TMC to join talks

Amid talks of a ‘mock Parliament’ outside the building, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has invited leaders of opposition parties for a breakfast meeting on Tuesday in which he is likely to discuss the strategy for the Monsoon Session at a time when the Parliament is seeing a deadlock.

Sources have said an invitation is also being sent to Trinamool Congress (TMC), which has so far kept itself from joint meetings similar organised by the Congress party. TMC sources have confirmed that they will attend the breakfast meeting called by Rahul Gandhi.

“The Opposition MPs will sit together for breakfast to form a joint strategy to take on the government, which has been denying us an opportunity to discuss the Pegasus snooping issue,” said a senior Congress MP.

All Opposition MPs have been invited for a meeting over breakfast by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Sources have also said that the Opposition MPs will take out a protest march and walk to the Parliament.

“Invitations are being sent to all MPs of the Opposition parties, this will help us listen to suggestions from all the leaders fighting against the Centre,” said a party source.

The breakfast meeting will be held at the Constitution Club, close to the Parliament building. The invitation has come amid talks of a parallel Parliament session by the Opposition parties since the government has turned down all demands to hold discussion on the Pegasus snooping issue.

Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have failed to transact any significant business, except passage of some bills, amid continued protests by opposition parties over the Pegasus and farmers’ issues since the Monsoon session of Parliament commenced on July 19. The session is scheduled to conclude on August 13.
