‘It’s the highest high’: Katy Perry, all-women crew complete 10-min Blue Origin Space trip | World News

Pop star Katy Perry and five other women made hory today as they launched into space aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket in the company’s first all-female crewed mission.
“It’s the highest high,” said Katy Perry after the 10-minute space tourism flight, according to the New York Post. “I couldn’t recommend this experience more,” she added.
Perry also shared her perspective on the experience, saying, “It’s about making space for future women and taking up space and belonging. This is all for the benefit of Earth.” She plans to write a new song inspired her journey.

The launch happened at 9:30 am ET from Blue Origin’s site in Van Horn, Texas. The 10-minute flight carried the crew just past the Kármán line 100km above Earth — which is widely recognised as the official boundary of space.

Alongside Perry was broadcaster Gayle King, who co-hosts CBS Mornings; Lauren Sánchez, a former journal and fiancée of Jeff Bezos; Aisha Bowe, a former NASA rocket scient; Amanda Nguyen, a bioastronautics researcher and civil rights activ; and Kerianne Flynn, a film producer.

“I still can’t believe I’m here,” King said before liftoff, speaking to CBS Mornings. “It’s such an unlikely place for me to be. The training helped, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous.”
According to NBC News, Oprah Winfrey, King’s longtime friend, watched emotionally from the ground as the rocket blasted off. After the capsule safely landed in the desert under parachutes, King stepped out, raised both hands in celebration, then knelt and kissed the ground.

The mission marked the 11th human flight of Jeff Bezos’ New Shepard programme. For Bowe and Nguyen, the trip carried special significance — Bowe became the first Bahamian woman in space, and Nguyen the first Vietnamese and Southeast Asian woman to make the journey.Story continues below this ad
“It’s not just about touching space,” Nguyen said in a pre-launch interview. “It’s about opening doors for those who were never seen in these spaces before.”
The crew returned safely and was greeted cheering onlookers, including Winfrey and other invited guests. This latest mission brings the total number of people who have flown aboard New Shepard to 58.
