Harmanpreet Kaur and Co reger India’s first ever win against Australia in women’s Test cricket hory | Cricket News

India regered their first-ever win against Australia in the hory of women’s Test cricket as Harmanpreet Kaur and Co prevailed eight wickets on Sunday in Mumbai. In the previous 10 official Test matches spanning back till 1977, India had lost four and drawn six against Australia. This match against Alyssa Healy and Co was the first women’s Test between the two teams in India since 1984.
With this victory, India completed a memorable homecoming as they were playing Test matches at home for the first time since 2014. It is worth noting that, apart from this streak-ending win against Australia, India also regered the biggest win in the hory of women’s cricket ( margin of runs at the completion of the fourth innings) when they defeated Heather Knight’s England last week in Navi Mumbai at the DY Patil Stadium.
After not having played Test cricket for seven years since 2014, the Indian women’s cricket team have now gone undefeated in England and in Australia (two draws), and at home too (two wins) in the last couple of years.

India lost the toss and saw Australia bat first at the Wankhede Stadium, but the bowlers stepped up on the opening day led Pooja Vastrakar to bundle the visitors out for 219. India then went on to post back-to-back 400-plus first innings totals in the last two matches, reaching 406 for a handy first-innings lead. Australia put up a much-improved batting effort in their second innings but a late fightback on Day 3 final session and a strong show on Day 4 the Indian spinners restricted them to 261.
Set a target of 75 to create a slice of hory, India lost the wickets of Shafali Verma and Richa Ghosh but Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues took the side past the finish line.
In the space of two Test matches, India’s debutants performed well, with notably Rodrigues scoring two half-centuries in two matches. In the Test against England, it was an all-round show Deepti Sharma as she picked up 9 wickets in the match.
India next play three ODIs and three T20Is against Alyssa Healy & Co in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai respectively.
