It ruled that President Donald Trump did not have the power to impose global tariffs under the old emergency law, International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).
Court says only Congress can approve import taxes: The court decided a 6–3 majority that only Congress can approve broad import taxes, and the law used the White House does not allow such tariffs. Trump says will impose 10% global tariffs executive order: US President Trump has reacted strongly calling the ruling “unfair” and describing it as a “disgrace”. He said justices who voted against what he described as a ‘very acceptable and proper method of TARIFFS’ should be “ashamed”. He criticised two justices he appointed, Neil Gorsuch and Amy Coney Barrett, and also took aim at Chief Justice John Roberts. Trump further said he would impose 10% global tariff and would sign an executive order using Section 122, which was created 1974 Trade Act.
