Election Commission can make Lok Sabha elections in April-May next year
Lucknow: The Central Election Commission is preparing to hold Lok Sabha elections in April-May next year. In view of this, Uttar Pradesh’s election machinery has made preparations even faster. State’s Chief Electoral Officer L. Venkateshwar Loo will review the revision campaign of the electoral rolls starting from September 1 for the Lok Sabha elections on October 11.
It is known that the general elections for the 16th Lok Sabha were carried out in 9 phases between April 7, 2014 and May 12, 2014. The results of the Lok Sabha elections were announced on May 16, 2014. Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister on May 26, 2014. The first meeting of the 16th Lok Sabha was held on June 4, 2014. In this sense, the formation of the 17th Lok Sabha has to happen in every situation till 3 June 2019. It is also expected that in the April-May Lok Sabha elections, elections for Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha and Sikkim will also be held.
In the order of preparations for the Lok Sabha elections in UP, through video conferencing, on October 11, the officers of every district of the state will be asked to progress for the voter list revision campaign. In this campaign, on the directive of the Central Election Commission, on January 1, 2019, priority is given to the addition of youth voters who have completed the age of 18 years and women and handicapped persons in the maximum number of voters’ list.
In addition, special attention is being given on the duplicate recorded in existing voters list and removal of dead voters from outside the district or state. This revision campaign will run till October 31. The data collected during the campaign will be feared in November and December. Then on January 4 next year the final draft of the new Voter List will be published. A total of 13,43,51,297 voters were registered in the Voter List of the last Lok Sabha elections in 2014.

The 2019 Lok Sabha elections will be headed by the new Chief Election Commissioner of the country. Current Chief Election Commissioner Om Prakash Rawat is retiring on December 1. IAS Rawat, Madhya Pradesh cadre of the year 1977 batch, was made Election Commissioner on August 14, 2015 in the Central Election Commission. Then on January 23, 2018, he was appointed chief election commissioner. On December 1, 2018, he will retire when he is 65 years old. Looking at seniority, the current election commissioner Sunil Arora is likely to be appointed the country’s next Chief Election Commissioner.
